Lockdown Regatta
Over the second May bank holiday, 9 athletes from SBC competed in the Lockdown Regatta organised by 3 University student rowers from De Montfort University and Bath Spa University to raise money for NHS Charities Together. Keen runner and member of the Women's Squad, Ellie Warren, spotted the event and alerted everyone to the fantastic opportunity. Staines entered 2 'boats' an Op 1x and W 8+.
Each competitor had to run 2km making this competition accessible to everyone, they had to race a time trial on the Saturday which then placed them into the A, B or C finals. Ian Grant in his 1x came 6th in the time trial meaning he went through to the A finals held on the Monday. The W 8+ placed 8th in the time trial putting them through to the B finals held on the Sunday.
The W 8+ came 2nd in their final improving their crew average by 24s, special shout out to the Women's Squad Coordinator Steph Giles who improved her time the most by 54s!
The Op 1x came 4th in his final improving his already very fast time by 1m1s! Congratulations Ian!
So far the regatta event has raised £2248 for NHS Charities Together, if you'd like to donate to the cause you can do so via their JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lockdownregatta
Well done to everyone involved!
