Monmouth Regatta 2017 Saturday
All those that stayed Camping on Friday night were awoken by a terrific thunderstorm which has us jumping in our beds. The day started with reasonable weather and thankfully the Monmouth Regatta course offers plenty of shelter. It was a tough start for many of the early races with many of the Staines Boat Club crews being knocked out of their events in the 1st heat. But by late morning it was the younger junior crews that lead the way. WJ14 2x, WJ15 2x, WJ16 2x and J16 2x. A fantastic performance from all the Junior athletes. Then a spectacular WIN by the boys in the J15 Coxed Quad when beat the opponents by a considerable distance. To follow were the the girls in the WJ15 2x and WJ14 2x both leading their final races from the start. Although the weather had not improved during the day it did not dampen the high spirits in the Staines Boat Club camp and we went on to celebrate in our usual way with a huge Barbecue and this year a late night limbo competition! And finally another winner was Charlie Punter also Rowing in the Regatta with university of Swansea. His crew looked fast and we wish them well as they go on to race at Henley Royal Regatta in July.
