Walton & Weybridge Regatta
WALTON & WEYBRIDGE REGATTA 2017 and the Staines Boat Club junior Squad were back in action. The day started early with bright blue skies and a breeze blowing directly down the 1000m Regatta course. Due to recent rainfall the River was running fast, promising the chance of record fast times on the Regatta course.
First up were the SBC two junior 15 women's doubles racing in two separate events both crews qualified for the Semi-Finals of their particular events. During the semi-final race both crews race well from the start but Maddie & Lydia did not manage to defeat their opposition.
Ellie & Kathryn won and went on to win in some style. The final saw the SBC crew gain the lead early and stay there winning by over a boat length.
Then it was the turn of the SBC Junior Men Starsky Torchia & Gregor Roach who put in a good performance as the conditions on the water changed but couldn't beat the local crew from St George's college.
In the afternoon the wind increased creating 'choppy' water on the course. The SBC Women's Junior 15 quad raced and got through to the Semi-Final but went out in a hard fought race with Abingdon RC.
Also racing in the Women's Junior 18 single sculls was Morgaine Webb who fought hard against the rough water and wind from the start and held position till halfway down the course but couldn't beat her opposition from Lea RC.
A great all round performance from the Staines crews at this well attended Regatta. WELL DONE to all those who took part.
Finally, listen out for our Winners Ellie & Kathryn who were interviewed by Brooklands Radio when they went to collect their prize from the Mayor of Elmbridge.
